When Def Leppard first hit the music scene in 1977, Corpus Christi became a regular stop. I photographed at least two of their shows in those early years.
I remember thinking, "These guys are really jamming and they're teenagers like me". Steve Clark and Pete Willis were a great combination. Pete looked like he was twelve years old and the guitar was as big as he was. Their shows always had so much energy.
After the show my concert buddies and I went looking for the band. Living in a small city made it easy to find where the different groups were staying because there were only two decent hotels in town. We found the tour bus outside the Sheraton on the bayfront and ran into drummer Rick Allen, well before the accident that would cost him an arm. One of my buddies asked him if he had any guitar picks, to which Rick replied, "I'm the drummer, mate." I almost made my friend walk home after that one.
